New Atlanta AFCOM President wants to expand educational programs and outreach.

AFCOM is pleased to announce Farris A. Shaheen has been appointed as the new President of the Board for the Atlanta Georgia chapter. The new president has set improve educational programming and industry outreach. “Atlanta is an up and coming data center market and one of the fastest growing in the country,” said Mr. Shaheen, “we need to ensure that the local industry is aligned to support the growth.”

Although formed in 1998, the Atlanta Georgia chapter has not been active for the last few years and recent changes in the local market caused the chapter to re-launch. “The metro the area has enjoyed one of the most stable power grids in the country and affordable real estate, for quite some time.” noted the new President, “Now it’s exciting to see the State put out the welcome mat for new large-scale data center facilities. Georgia Power’s rates are more competitive and HB696, which was sent to the Governor in April, keeps the equipment costs for these facilities competitive with other states. These steps really make Atlanta, Georgia an attractive place to do business.”

The AFCOM Atlanta Georgia chapter will focus its efforts on outreach and educational programming. “Specialists in the metro area do a good job of supporting one another. It’s a tight community. With the relaunch of the chapter, we believe we can support further economic development in the region and better support younger professionals seeking a career in the data center industry.”
Farris is a Principal at Morrison Hershfield and Manager of its U.S. mission critical practice.
