Ben Stewart

Chapter President

Mng Director - Facility Engineering | Verizon Enterprise Solutions

Ben Stewart is responsible for electrical and mechanical engineering design and support of all Verizon mission critical facilities. He completed 25 years of military duty retiring as a Commander in the U. S. Coast Guard. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the U. S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School and holds a Masters in Business Administration from Monmouth University. He completed his doctoral course of study in 2016 earning his PhD. He is a Professional Engineer registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He also sits on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Miami Dade College of Engineering and the Advisory Council for The Green Grid. He is the founder and President of the Miami Chapter of AFCOM and sits on the Board of Directors for the 7x24 Mission Critical South Florida Chapter. He is also registered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a Data Center Energy Practitioner (DCeP).

Carlos David

Chapter Vice President

Mng Dir-Svc Config&Act / Global Data Center Operations | Verizon Enterprise Solutions

At present, Carlos David is the Managing Director of Global Datacenter Operations for Verizon. In his current role, Carlos is responsible for the day-to-day Tier 1 operations of the Cloud Services portfolio of data centers in Verizon’s global footprint. His goal is striving towards standardizing the customer experience, through reliable, repeatable & predictable operating processes around colocation customer deployments and related support and maintenance activities at the data centers. Prior to joining Verizon, Carlos spent 3 years at Desca, building a Managed Services practice that ultimately supported near 4000 contracts in 17 countries in Latin America. And prior to that, he spent approximately 9 years as Director of Operations for Telefonica USA, Inc., a subsidiary of the global telecommunications company headquartered in Madrid, Spain. At Telefonica, his responsibilities included operating the US domestic data center footprint, the IT Outsourcing practice, and Managed Services engineering functions. Supporting a large multinational customer base, mainly corporations headquartered in the US, but doing business in South and Latin America, allowed Carlos to benchmark the best practices in the industry and apply them along with vendor agnostic technologies to deliver business enabling solutions. Carlos has held several other roles in the Information Technology industry over the last two decades working in network consulting, quality control, IT outsourcing professional services, Value Added Reseller, Managed Services Provider, and more recently Telecommunications, & Data Centers. In addition, he has managed multi-national data center operations; very large data center migration projects, software development projects, ISO and TQM quality models consulting, and is a certified PMP. Carlos holds a Bachelor degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Florida International University.

April Manders

Chapter Treasurer

Senior Engineer – Network Security | Verizon Enterprise Solutions

April Manders is the Manager of National Security for Verizon Operations and leads an experienced team who ensures that all government national security requirements for the company and its customers are met. Manders is also the Facility Security Officer for Terremark Federal Group, LLC., a Verizon subsidiary, where she manages secure space accreditations, personnel clearances, physical and communications security. Manders was a Facility Engineer for Terremark Worldwide, Inc. recruited to establish and manage an enterprise-wide security system that was successfully implemented to company data centers globally. Prior to joining Terremark, Manders was enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Communications Operator from 2000 – 2004 where she was responsible for managing secure messaging for Vandenberg Air Force Base as part of the Space Communications Squadron. Manders managed over 3,000 communications security material for the U. S. Air Force. Manders received an Associate of Science in Information Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. Manders has mentored for Girls Who Code and IT Women, inspiring a passion for technology in girls and encouraging women across the field to collaborate and empower each other.

Doyle Bolton

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Telefonica USA, Inc.

Doyle Bolton has been in the facilities field since graduating from Total Energy Power Plant school in 1969. He started working in a public school with a Total Energy power plant (no outside power input) as Facilities Manager and Ass’t. Plant Engineer. Later he worked over 27 years in a large Resort Hotel with over 500 rooms and everything from beaches to ocean dock and helicopter landing pad. The resort had no outside power input and used desalinated sea water for fresh water and sewage plants, for chilled water units, boilers and power generation was via various diesel engines. Doyle has been in his current position with Telefonica in Miami since 2001.
