Tim Gentle

Chapter President

Tim has over 20 years experience in working, owning and managing businesses and organizations across a wide range of industries including insurance, maintenance and the not for profit sector.

Tim is the Principal and General Manager of The Australian IT Services Group that provides technical maintenance services to a wide range of clients and Data Centres Australia Wide.

Tim has been instrumental in the set up of the new AFCOM Sydney chapter and is passionate about seeing young people seeing the Data Centre Infrastructure Sector as a career option.

Kathryn Burnett

Chapter Vice President

Kathryn has worked in the Data Centre industry since 2007, information technology 1997 and most recently Telecommunications. Kathryn works with engineers, infrastructure, IT operations and facility managers. Kathryn is passionate about Data Centre management and networking with like-minded professionals.

Beth Gentle

Chapter Secretary

Beth has over 8 years experience in a wide range of organisations, across many industries including Retail, the Australian Music Industry, Animal Care and IT Maintenance. She has held positions on various volunteer boards within said industries.

Beth has achieved Diplomas for her studies in Business and Management, with a core focus on Administration and Marketing. She continues to study, currently undertaking her Bachelor of Business at Swinburne University in Australia.

Beth works as the National Office Manager at the Australian IT Services Group, managing staff and clients across Australia. Beth’s Membership Co-ordinator experience at APRA AMCOS is a very valuable asset to the AFCOM Sydney Chapter.

Simon Abela

Chapter Director

Simon Abela is a technology professional with 20+ years of experience in Australia and overseas. He currently manages the Australian practice of CS Technology which is a data centre and IT infrastructure consultancy headquartered in New York. His role is multifaceted across client engagement delivery, account management, business development, people management and administration.

CS Technology specialises in data centre strategy – options analyses, financial modelling, growth modelling, business cases – and data centre implementation – application workload analysis, migration planning, and application migration execution into collocation and cloud.

High profile data centre projects include: Design of the world’s first Tier IV data centre; New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) data centre design and migrations; NSW Government data centre consolidation strategy and business case.

John Bampton

Chapter Director

John has worked in and around the data centres of the RBA for over 25+ years in various roles including projects for the data centre builds.

John is the IT Operations Manager at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). His team work 24/7 across two sites managing the IT services within the RBA data centres. John also acts as an Incident Manager 24/7 managing service outages through to recovery.

Danny O'Toole

Chapter Director

Danny has been a part of Macquarie Telecom for 9 years in the Data Centre Facilities industry. Danny currently acts as the Data Centre Facilities Coordinator and as part of his role and position, manages the implementation and coordination of all Data Centre projects, Data Centre repairs, preventive maintenance scheduling of all Data Centre Facility Management, Security escalation and all Data Cabling and Data Centre Electrical Management. Danny is interactive with Clients and Vendors on a daily basis and is always on the approach to better improve and impact the industry any ways he can.

Waylon Fung

Chapter Director

Waylon is a graduate environmental engineer in Fujitsu's graduate program, predominantly based in Data Centre Services. Waylon brings to Fujitsu his experience in property and asset management with JLL and in energy efficiency with start up Wattblock.

Waylon is excited to be a newcomer to the Data Centre Industry and is dedicated to learning from seasoned industry professionals. Waylon’s recent graduate experience will be extremely valuable in helping the Chapter formulate its Student Membership Program in 2019.
